The school provides education and boarding facilities to learners from the east of Johannesburg who are hard of hearing. The learners aged three to nineteen years old are instructed in South African sign language.

Ekurhuleni School For The Deaf affords its two hundred and twenty learners the opportunity to focus on developing skills in addition to those covered in the academic component of their scholastic careers, such as welding, art and various sport. The majority of the school’s students are from underprivileged backgrounds and this learning institution seeks to cultivate individuals who are able to sustain themselves regardless of economic change, the school believes that this will effectuate a community and society to which will possess the same competency.
